No internet on CentOS 8 Oracle Virtual Box

Posted: July 4, 2020 in Uncategorized

Issue:

Sometimes we can’t reach the internet when we install CentOS 8 on Oracle Virtualbox

Even ifconfig command could not show the IPaddress

Ping google.com also fails. To resolve this follow the simple single command step

Resolution:

Run below command by Switching to root user or run with Sudo as prefix

# dhclient -v

Now check the ifconfig. This time you see the ip address and also ping works

But this is not the permanent solution. We need to add this at boot level

Edit the new file with the name net-autostart

vi /etc/init.d/net-autostart

#!/bin/bash
# Default-Start: 2 3 4 5
# Default-Stop: 0 1 6
dhclient -v

Change permissions to 755

chmod 755 /etc/init.d/net-autostart

Now reboot machine. Now this time IP address get assigned automatically 🙂
